I think I lost September somewhere.

Thu Oct 22, 2009, 4:24 PM
Wow, time goes ridiculously fast!

I'm currently working on a project that you'll hear more about in the future, but that is also why I've not been around for a while. Real life kinda takes precedence over teh Internets, as much fun as they can be.

But rather than babble on about life, I give you lovely book recommendations! I'm just about a card-carrying bibliophile, so I love to introduce people to the wonderful finds I come across. (Since I'm teaching elementary classes right now, they're predominantly childrens' books).

Dragon Feathers, by Andgej & Olga Dugina Dugin. The illustrations in this story book are some of the most beautiful and bizarre I've seen in a long time. They're all done in oil paint, and they have a sort of surreal, renaissance-era quality to them.

The Katurran Odyssey, by Terryl Whitlatch and David Michael Weiger. I. Love. This. Book. Amazing illustrations, beautiful story, and lemurs who are best friends with quaggas. What more could you ask for?

The Wildlife of Star Wars, by Terryl Whitlatch and Bob Carrau. You don't have to be a Star Wars fan to appreciate the detailed thought and art of the creatures invented for the series. It's written like a real field guide, too, with information on diets, habitats, and social patterns.

Leo the Late Bloomer, by Robert Kraus. I love this book soley for how miserable poor little Leo looks in all the illustrations (until the end, of course)

Material World: A Global Family Portrait, by Peter Menzel. A glimpse into the lives of people all over the world, photographed in a truly fascinating way.

The Arrival, by Shaun Tan. I didn't know a book without words could make me cry like this one, but it did. Also, one of the most beautiful, moving books I've ever read.

Alright! That's enough for now. Stay healthy, everyone! And hopefully I'll be around here a bit more oftenlyish.
